COVID-19 brought sudden and widespread fear as the world faced an unknown, fast-spreading virus. Streets emptied, businesses shut down, and daily life came to a halt. People isolated in their homes, worried about their health and loved ones. The world paused—jobs were lost, schools closed, and uncertainty filled every corner. Life as we knew it changed overnight, leaving behind a deep sense of vulnerability, global unease, and a lot of grief! I was in junior high when COVID hit in March 2020. Everyone was isolated to their homes, workplaces shut down, hospitals crowded, and healthcare professionals exhausted, instilling fear in all of us. As months went on, we were reminded to stay isolated and wear masks everywhere. I understood the importance of this, but we couldn’t let fear dictate our lives. We didn’t have to be around people all the time, but we could still get out, take a hike, go to the park, and engage in activities to keep moving forward! My Nana, who was my person and my best friend, kept encouraging me to create apparel that embodied the message 'Live Your Life' and start my own business. I was only 13 years old—what did I know about that? I laughed it off but continued to tell people to LIVE YOUR LIFE; we have to keep doing the things we love! We can’t live in fear! My Nana was diagnosed with COVID at the beginning of September and was placed in ICU on a ventilator. That’s when I decided to do a fundraiser for the nurses and staff on her floor, caring for her. I created my LIVE YOUR LIFE shirts to sell, with proceeds going back to the unit that was taking care of her. After several weeks in the hospital, the worst day of my life came on September 22, 2021, when we had to say goodbye to my Nana. I lost her that day and a part of myself, but I knew I would continue to honor her dream and work on my LIVE YOUR LIFE apparel. This idea emerged during COVID, but it resonates with many aspects of personal development today. You can never lose sight of yourself or give up! Live your life on your own terms by staying true to your values, making choices that align with your passions, and not letting fear or others’ expectations control you. Take responsibility for your happiness, set your own goals, and pursue what brings you meaning. Respect others, but don’t seek constant approval—this is your journey. In memory of my Nana, I will always cherish the amazing times we shared, from attending every volleyball game I played to providing unwavering support and love. Those laughs, memories, and stories will forever hold a place in my heart! I will never forget you! Love always to everyone, and remember to Live Your Life.
